Step One: Choose a College or University

There are a variety of colleges and universities in Washington, but not all of them have an accredited Teacher Preparation Program. Hereโ€™s a list of Teacher Prep Programs you can find in the state:

  • Western Washington University: WWU offers undergraduate options for all types of education, including elementary, secondary, and SPED.
  • Eastern Washington University: EWU only offers undergraduate options for those pursuing teaching in elementary school, but they do offer a plethora of other options not available at other universities.
  • Central Washington University: CWU provides pathways at both the undergrad and graduate levels of coursework to certification in Washington.
  • Evergreen State College: While ESC doesnโ€™t provide an undergraduate pathway to teach in Washington, it does have a nationally acclaimed Masterโ€™s in Teaching program.

Step Two: Apply

So, youโ€™ve picked your collegeโ€”exciting! Now itโ€™s time to apply. Check the application deadlines and make sure you have everything you need, like transcripts, test scores (if required), and your personal statement. Fill out the application carefully, double-check for any mistakes, and submit it before the deadline. Donโ€™t forget to apply for financial aid and scholarships, too! Once itโ€™s all in, take a deep breathโ€”youโ€™re on your way to the next big chapter!
